Another Letter to the Free Press

If you did not see it, below is yet another letter published by the Doncaster Free Press as part of the campaign to keep the park toilets open. No one should doubt the commitment of the Friends of Sandall Park in this campaign.

Loss of park facilities a blow for Doncaster people

Published Date: 16 March 2009

THANKS to Sir David for highlighting the problems with Sandall Park.
I would not disagree at all, but the immediate problem is the imminent closing of the park toilets by the council at the end of March. These toilets are in excellent condition having recently been refurbished and include disabled and baby changing facilities. They are used by almost all who attend the park.

The Friends of Sandall Park have a strategy to attract more visitors and families to the park yet the council plan to withdraw such a key service lets the group, park users and the people of Doncaster down.

The group has attracted £30,000 of investment in the park over the last two years – the one thing we cannot obtain is revenue funding to have the toilets cleaned.

The end of March will see a further decline in a key borough-wide asset and Doncaster Council are the only people who can stop it.

As a voluntary group and registered charity the Friends of Sandall Park work hard against the odds to try and improve the park; what a shame some of those paid to do the same don’t share our commitment.
