WANTED – For Swan Death!

Some things in life just make your blood boil. It sounds really smart to say ‘I told you so’ but on this occasion it’s true – we did.

How many times on this web site – even in the last two weeks have we said ‘Keep your dogs on a lead or it will go on the ice or kill the wildlife’? Well it happened this afternoon. 1pm to be precise. Dog owner with no brains let’s his dog chase the swans on the ice and kill a fully grown cygnet. How pathetic is that?

We have a description of the owner and dog. We are looking for a large dog with a large head, possibly a bull mastiff type and light brown in colour. Any information would be appreciated.

These thoughtless dog owners are giving other decent dog owners (who are the majority) a bad name. The last six months has seen the death of three black swans – two (at least) of which have been killed by dogs.

Thanks to the visitors to the park who witnessed this incident and took the time to ring us and let know what had happened. Clearly we take no pleasure in publishing the following photo’s but if they stop just one irresponsible owner from allowing their dog to chase wildlife then it is worth it.

Have you informed the police abouy the dog killing a grown-up cygnet ? ? It is a criminal offence, and the ownner should be prosecuted.

Yes we have informed all the authorities. We have also decided to pursue legislation under the control of dogs act – but this may take some time.

We are gutted that this incident should take place as you will note earlier on in this site all three cygnets were giving us a fantastic aerial display.

The local press will be carrying this story during the week. The breeding season will soon be upon us – most visitors come to the park to feed the wildlife and we must harness this enthusiasm to protect our none human residents.

Thanks again for your interest Swanlady – keep in touch……

Hi I found the body of the dead swan on the bank at lunchtime. It looked like the local fox had finished with it so I put it in the bin so Kids wouldn’t get traumatised by it.
One of the other cygnets looks very traumatised at the moment . It keeps coming for food but is extremely wary, even keeping away from the Canada geese. I’ll try and keep an eye on it

Thanks for that Anon. The Council had been informed – not sure what happened.
