OK – The ‘Cricket Pitch’. The area that was ploughed up (formerly a cricket pitch) was as a result of a local cricket team asking the council if they could use the park as their home ground.
After a huge amount of preparation work by the council the team has given back word. Because of forthcoming events over the summer we are encouraging the council to make sure the area is restored so that it can be enjoyed by everyone.
We were contacted by another person wishing play cricket in the park last year but unfortunately I can’t find his contact details. If he would contact us again maybe we can resurrect the cricket project…..
The good news is that as long as the weather holds bouncy castles will remain in the park during the school holidays.
This ever popular attraction is good for the park and good for the families visiting the park.
You will recall we were looking at rearranging the event. This annual event will now still take place on the afternoon of Sunday 21st June in Sandall Park.
The format may be a little different and it may be in a different place to usual in the park so watch this space and keep an eye on our website. We are delighted to welcome back the Doncaster Concert Band for what will be another stunning afternoon of FREE! entertainment.
A big welcome back to Jim Fletcher, his first parkrun since being tackled by a goose back in January.
It was a nasty injury and it’s great to see Jim back running again. Thought we had better check he wasn’t too nervous around the geese.
Being a volunteer in the park keeps us grounded……. you know in touch with reality.
So yesterday was a just a normal day meeting normal people – yeah right!
Well that seemed to go well! And for once the weather gods were on our side.
After days of gales the event day itself was superb with bright and warm weather – then back came the rain today…….
Another superbly supported day in the park with a free Easter Egg Hunt (our grateful thanks to Ready Steady Store for sponsoring this) and the Hook a Duck Championships (£1) with all funds raised on the day going back into the park.
A huge thankyou to all our volunteers who made it happen and to everyone that supported us.
