Yorkshire Day……..

YORKSHIRE DAY: Not a lot of people know this – but;
The event was first celebrated in 1975 in Beverley as a protest against local government re-organisation of Yorkshire Boundaries The date of August 1st was chosen because of its links to The Battle of Minden, fought on that day in 1759, before which the Yorkshire soldiers picked roses to wear into battle with their German allies (info courtesy of Lee Peace, journalist, Doncaster Free Press)
