Sandall Park was this afternoon awarded the Prestigious Green Flag Awarded at the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag awards ceremony at the Guild Hall at Hull.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The award has seen a remarkable turnaround of fortunes over recent years for one of Doncaster’s premier parks. The Friends of Sandall Park, working with the Local Authority have been at the forefront of the parks regeneration and investment.
The Friends of Sandall Park Chairman Sandra Crabtree said: “This is an amazing achievement for the park. Our aim has always been to achieve this standard but the baseline was so low 15 years ago. Working with the council to change things means Sandall Park is certainly on the up. This is probably only the midway point – the ship has been steadied and now the park has achieved this standard we should be able move forward in developing the park.”
The Friends of Sandall Park have achieved a string of awards in recent years for their work in the park including The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service the equivalent of an MBE) and Duke of York Community Initiative.
