Climbing Boulder for New Play Area

The addition of some new playground equipment near the main car park funded by The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund will include a climbing boulder like the one below.

This is just one bit of equipment that will make the area adventourous and more exciting for the children. We will feature more of the play equipment during the next two weeks – watch this site.

The weather doesn’t look too bad for this time of the year so there are still plenty of things to do. You could come and try and see our four black swans all together for the first time.

The park toilets are currently closed for the winter and have been drained and the electricity turned off – sorry.

Two Pairs of Swans Back on Lake

We’ve never had two pairs of black swans on the lake together before – except for a few brief hours last month.

It is great news that the fourth swan has returned and it looks like he/she has found a mate! We now have the original parents plus the cygnet from two years ago who has now teamed up with the incomer.

We shall have to see what happens – should be interesting…….

Rope Used in Dog Rescue

Not wishing to labour the point on this dangerous ice thing but the life saving rope that we put in the cafe has been used to save a dog that had fallen through the ice on the lake.

It is good news that someone thought it too dangerous to go on the ice after the dog and even better that the rope we purchased came in useful. We can’t help wondering though why the dog wasn’t on a lead in the first place.

We hate to say we told you so but…………

Incidentally the rope used was in fact a donation from a person who was saved from the frozen lake two years ago.

It’s not just kids – again yesterday dogs chasing wildlife onto the ice. It happens EVERY year and owners have to be rescued when it all goes wrong.

DON’T LET IT HAPPEN IN SANDALL PARK – PLEASE.

Paths Clear(ish) and Gritted…..

It’s been great seeing people still making the effort to come down and feed the ducks, swans and geese.

It should be a little bit easier now a s well as the council have gritted the main paths from the car parks down to the feeding area at the lake edge.

So what are you waiting for? Go feed the ducks………………………….. BUT PLEASE KEEP OFF THE ICE.

FoSP Meeting Tonight

Nice Leaflets – Thanks Girls…….

It is great to be able to give ‘work experience’ and we get something in return as well.

So our thanks go to Lizzy and Ellie who are Doncaster schoolgirls who offered to design some event leaflets for the Friends of Sandall Park. A great job they made of them too.

The leaflets will appear throughout the year and advertise our park events for 2012 and the leaflets include details of our commercial supporters.

Following on from the considerable amount of KFC litter dumped in the car park the other day – irresponsible McDonalds customers have now paid the park a visit and made an equally unsightly mess.

Shame really because the park provides a beautiful environment to sit and eat food – even in the car the view is nice. This sort of activity actually stopped for a while when the hedge on Thorne Road was lowered and a few fixed penalty tickets were issued because the view of offenders was improved.

This is not normally a winter problem but we are working with the council to get help from both McDonalds and KFC in reducing the amount of litter and we will also be pushing for more enforcement. More tickets = less litter.
