Who Was the Laydeee?

There were many sights at todays Care to Run. None more shocking than the Laydee (?) Shedding (her?) petticoat at the end of lap one………

As the sun came out it could have been much (much) worse……….. but whoever (whatever) you are are thanks for supporting the Care to Run in 2010. This event would have been a little less dazzling without you. Mwaaa!

We are sure that the brief for Ready Steady Store was not to get on stage……………..

But how could they resist the girls from Nuffield Health! We tried stop them but you know how it is …….. who could resist?

The Care to Run event went ahead because of the sponsorship by Ready Steady Store and Nuffield Health ………………….. and long may that continue!

What a day! Fantastic weather, superb venue (of course) and great support from both families, the public and event sponsors.

Just a quick posting to announce the winners of the two trophy’s for the first woman and first man. There will be lots more photo’s to follow.

The first man home was Peter Andrews from Armthorpe (21 mins. 07 secs) and the first woman was Alison Straw of Wheatley (26.04). Congratulations to both.

The first boy home was Robert Bright (26.04) and the first girl was Millie Shuttleworth(27.01). Well done to everyone especially those at the tail-end. The phrase ‘medal like a dustbin lid’ was meant for you all.

Care to Run This Weekend

The weather forecast is pretty good for the weekend so its a great time to support the Aurora Care to Run 5km run/jog/walk. It starts on the old golf course at 10.30 am on Sunday.

Rounders: Solicitors Vs Accountants

A whole seasons training came together for another titanic struggle on the park rounders pitch for Taylor Bracewell solicitors as they played Crozier Jones accountants – and WON!

After a narrow defeat earlier in the year by a Yorkshire Bank team this time the solicitors were on the ball and after a first innings lead of 6 – 5 eventually ran out 26 – 11 winners.

There were some suspicious ‘no balls’ but betting in this area was almost nil – OK it was nil. There is to be no inquiry!! However it was rumoured that a ’Ringer of Sandall Park’ assisted the solicitors but we are ready for a News of the World ’sting’.

A great time was had by all – exactly what parks should be used for. There was even talk of a charity tournament next year – so watch this space.

Rounders: Solicitors Vs Bankers!

Today saw a full scale rounders match on the old golf course when two highly trained, highly skilled 2012 Olympic bound (almost) rounders teams came head to head in a challenge match.

The result was that the bankers narrowly beat the solicitors even with a few ‘ringers’. A great time was had by all (even taking account of the injuries sustained).

Our Thanks to the staff of both Taylor Bracewell Solicitors and the Yorkshire Bank for choosing our park for such a prestigious game!

The fitness equipment came in handy for the warm up routine!

Rounders Pitch Marked Out For 2010

The rounders pitch has been marked out again for 2010 for all to use. It is on the old golf course as you enter it through the gap in the edge near the bog garden.

If anyone wishes to use the rounders equipment that we have – FREE OF CHARGE – please let us know. All w ask is that a responsible adult be present to look after the equipment.

Rounders is a great game – when you have the space. The park has plenty of space and more.

A reminder that FoSP have a full set of rounders equipment for families or groups to use free of charge. Just drop us a line or give us a ring.

All we ask is that a responsible adult takes charge of the equipment.

New Trophies for Care to Run

It’s a few months yet until the Aurora Care to Run 5Km Walk/jog/run but we are already getting geared up for it.

A very kind donation has been made of two trophies for the lady and first gentleman in the run. When we find out the details we will of course back date the engravings of the winners for the last two years. For details of the Aurora Care to Run click here.

Our thanks go to Mick Wainwright who kindly donated these two great trophies. They will be retained in the Aurora Centre office for safe keeping!!
