Why indeed. Well this week one such offender came a cropper when that person dumped a shopping trolley in the bog pond but was seen by park visitors and details reported to the authorities.

That person has been identified and has been dealt with. Our thanks to those who took action because the only reason that these people do this is because they think they will not be caught….. think again.

More shrubs and plants were stolen. Difficult one this – we don’t want the thieving ‘lows lifes’ to win – yet attempts to make the park look nice result in the plants being stolen.

Stealing plants in the park is bad enough but on this occasion over the weekend 15 substantial shrubs have been stolen from the garden near the cafe adopted by two of our volunteers.

They have worked so hard to turn around this previously neglected area and some ‘low life’ just walks in and steals all the plants that were worth anything. 

We are not talking kids here. Our experience has shown us that the offenders will be adult, have their own home and will live locally.

Should we forgive and forget? Not likely – we hope these ‘low life’ get exactly what they deserve.

It probably should not come as surprise at this time of the year – but it is still not right. Experience has told us that while the hedge will probably recover,  it will in fact be years before it is fully recovered.

What we don’t think is at all acceptable is damage caused to our memorial benches in the park. Donated by loved ones, these benches are memorials. Thankfully we have only had two damaged in the last five years and we got the offenders on both occasions. Hopefully we will get the offenders on this occasion as well.

So – any suggestions would be appreciated. ‘Jimmy’ and ‘Amy’ get ready for the knock.

Oh and the damage has been repaired by FoSP volunteers.

Our volunteers have now restored all the park benches to their original pristine condition.

Information is a little sparse at the moment but we are working on it and there are witnesses who need to be traced. In the meantime any information would be appreciated.

It’s just that it takes up our time when we have better and more rewarding things to do in the park. Any info on the culprits would be appreciated – as always all information will be treated in the strictest of of confidence.

Someone is treating the park as their own free garden centre. The latest theft is of lavender plants from the rockery area near to the toilets.

Plant thieves are not always as obvious as people may think. Last year we caught an elderly person armed with plastic gloves and carrier bags systematically clearing a flower bed in the park.

Shame on you!

Due to the dangerous condition that the tree was left in it has had to be cut down. All those years it took to grow and in one evening vandals have reduced it to nothing.

Value wise you can’t put a price on it – but the cost to the environment and the pleasure the tree gave visitors to the park is immense.
