And it’s not even summer yet………

Why indeed. Well this week one such offender came a cropper when that person dumped a shopping trolley in the bog pond but was seen by park visitors and details reported to the authorities.

That person has been identified and has been dealt with. Our thanks to those who took action because the only reason that these people do this is because they think they will not be caught….. think again.

Even when normally ‘responsible’ dog owners pick up after their dog there is invariably ‘residue’  left behind. Yet again today (and almost every day) there was dog poo left on the slopes of the childrens play area near the main car park. Bad enough now but even worse in the summer when this area is the busiest in the park.

The message is “KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEAD TO MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT GO ONTO THE PLAY AREA”.

Picking litter is something we should not have to do but as long there are irresponsible park visitors someone has got to do it.

As you can see from the pictures ALL this litter was thrown in the lake and today, due to the forces of nature, it all ended up in one place. Not being a group that miss an opportunity we cleared most of it in one go. And what an impressive sight it looks – in a sad sort of way!

We are not sure why but the playground just attracts litter from the KFC. There are bins provided but to no avail – litter just gets dumped next to the play area. Not nice for the kids and certainly not nice for park visitors as it is the first thing they see when they drive into the main car park.

This may come as shock to some irresponsible dog owners but the clue is in the play equipment and shock! – horror! – children playing!

So come on please – keep your dog on a lead in this area for two reasons. To protect the children from dogs and also so you know when the dog has done a whoopsy. It is an offence and a ticket was issued to a dog owner in this area only last week.

But Sandall Park has to be different – a bit of culture, a little up beat. Yes we recovered an electric guitar from the lake this afternoon. We suspect it no longer works – some may even say it sounds better now!

Litter bins and seats are like buses……….. you don’t get one for ages then two come at once! Also in the bog garden area between the two pond side benches is now another rubbish bin. Hopefully this will stop some of the litter being thrown in the pond.

Yet again thanks to the council for listening to the Friends of Sandall Park.

We think the incident actually had an effect in Sandall Park because over the last two years it has been rare to see this type of litter laying around – even when there have been beer cans.

It is a shame then that this week we have recovered  several of the beer can holders from near the bog pond. So, as a reminder this is what happens when ducks and litter come together……
