Anglers Already Make an Impact

Yes we know the lake itself looks a mess in places due to litter – especially gathering where the wind blows it. We don’t think it stay that way for long though.

The newly formed Anglers of Sandall Park (AoSP) have had their first cleaning session and removed many items from the lake including several shopping trolleys!

Further clean up sessions are planned for next week and we can’t wait to see the results.

New Litter Bin On Site of Playbuilder

Today a brand new litter bin was sited near to the Playbuilder project. Hopefully it will survive the night and be ready use shortly – it’s even bright red in case anyone fails to notice it!

On the same site it is a shame that the ‘willow tunnel’ is not doing well and all the plants on the slope to the slide have gradually disappeared. The thing with the willow tunnel is that it has not been vandalised it has just disintegrated due to the amount of children using the play area – which is of course a good thing.

Can You Tell What It Is Yet?

Yep it’s a toilet roll and to be more exact it is one used to block the toilets up – again! Forensic analysis and DNA testing was not required.

More money has been spent on unblocking the ladies toilets (blocked by toilet rolls) than anything else. I’m sure there is a reason for this strange behaviour but the fact is if money is continually wasted unblocking the toilets they will eventually close. The council is not flush with money!

Concert Day – Can You Help?

This Sunday is Music in the Park day and we could do with a bit of help just tidying the park up before the event.

Obviously we want the park to look its best because we will be having some visitors who have not been here for years. If the weather is OK on Saturday there will no doubt be some litter on the ground so we could do with some help on Sunday morning just to titivate the area and clear a bit of litter up.

We’ll be on the old golf course from about 10.30 that morining setting things up so if you feel you could spend just half an hour doing a litter pick please call and see us. Thanks.

Weekends Worth of Rubbish Looks Like…..

OK, so what does a weekends worth of rubbish in Sandall Park look like?

The answer actually is in the picture below – so a big thank you to everyone who chose to use a bin in the park this weekend. Shame about the shopping trolley – on closer examination of the rubbish in the lake that came with the shopping trolley (see other article) – it is clearly household rubbish that someone brought from their home in the trolley and dumped it in the lake – amazing!

Our thanks also to John the gardener who works so hard to try and keep the park litter free – against all the odds.

What a fantastic weekend for weather – the busiest for the park this year so far. What a shame that the park was not looking its best for all the visitors.

The ‘Oiks’ were at it again but this time they excelled in their own little way. With great skill and endeavour they managed to jump start a shopping trolley and load it with (this is the skillful bit) bags of rubbish and then (this is the endeavour they been aiming to achieve all their lives) dumping the lot into the lake.

Well done Oiks – with one brain cell less than the pond life you must be feeling quite satisfied!

Playbuilders – Litter

The area of the Playbuilders project has looked great over the Easter period – even it has been a bit soggy in places. Unfortunately it has been swamped with litter since last night (Tuesday) when a gang of teenage youths chose to take up residence in that area with their KFC.

Wow – what a mess……… The good news is that hopefully they won’t be back today because they probably don’t want to sit in an area that resembles a rubbish tip! (Actually a Friend of Sandall Park picked up all the rubbish).

Angling in the park may have been suspended but it has not stopped the responsible anglers from still looking after the lake.

The following articles were this afternoon removed from the lake by them:
6 pike lures – very dangerous to birds
4 fishing rods
5 lead weights
1 infamous red and white brolly
Countless bits of line with hooks on.

Brilliant guys thanks for your help – clearly no hard feelings then.

It’s taken quite sometime to train people to actually put litter in bins (well some anyway – most do it as a matter of course). So what type of person opens the (not so) secure bins and then spreads the contents about?

Well that is exactly what happened to the litter bins near the ‘bus shelter’. You can see the mess in the photo.

Several people have Emailed us about this and yes we have informed the council to get the rubbish removed. One member described the person responsible as an ‘Oik’ – so I looked it up: From the Oxford English Dictionary: oick, oik (OIk). slang. Depreciatory schoolboy word for a member of another school; an unpopular or disliked fellow-pupil. Also gen., an obnoxious or unpleasant person; in weakened senses, a ‘nit-wit’, a ‘clot’. Hence ‘oikish a., unpleasant, crude; ‘oickman.

And you know what - we agree!
