The ILM (Intermediate Labour Market) team have sorted the slope from the main park to the golf course and they have now tackled the one at the corner entrance near to Thorne Road – near the old folks complex.

This one was particularly bad because it is on the fitness trails and was slippy when wet. All being well this should be much better . Thanks Fellas.

This also looks pretty bad on fairly new benches – especially when we have gone almost a year without any damage whatsoever. Well thats school holidays for you!

Today was a great day for Sandall Park when we had a Ministerial visit from our own Rosie Winterton MP.

This was the culmination of 18 months work to transform the old golf course area in to a popular family recreation facility. So a big thank you to everyone concerned – especially our funders for the project.

Whenever possible FOSP try and plant more trees in the park if any are taken down. Six years ago many will remember the high winds that devastated many areas and brought down many trees in the park including an entire copse on the old golf course. As part of the golf course project an entire new copse of trees has this week been planted along with many other substantial trees in that area of the park. This should have taken place at the end of last year but because of the weather this was impossible. For full details of the Golf Course project click here.

The main car park was completly full and you could easily see from the road that it was very busy with families feeding the wildlife. It was also nice to see families playing games on the golf course – exactly as intended when the golf course project was being planned. What is especially pleasing is seeing the crocus and other plants coming up – we spent days and planted thousands and thousands of bulbs. Let’s hope a lot more come up.

The last five years has been unkind to the existing trees in that area with at least two groups of trees being completely destroyed by high winds. The aim is to restore the area with a selection of new trees.

We ask that everyone using the area keeps an eye on the new trees please – these are for the future of the park.

Does it always happen in our park? Nah! At least one owner on a fairly regular basis ‘hides’ the stuff behind one of the concrete golf markers next to the fitness equipment – less than 10 feet away from a dog bin……..

The stage is then set for an enquiring mind, you know, the sort that give pond life a bad reputation. It must seem clever to the take the second hand dog poo, take it our of the plastic bag and smear it all over the sit up benches on the fitness equipment – twice!

We are suitably impressed. Honest.

We are returning to our old Proms style concert on the refurbished ‘old golf course’. There is no entry fee and parking is free. All money raised by buying flags, raffle tickets and song sheets will help the Friends of Sandall Park put further events on in the park.
