Very nice they look too.

The seats are actually some that have been recycled after they were removed when the old boat area was grassed over. At least more mum’s can rest their weary legs while little kiddywinkles play for hours and hours and hours and hours and…………..

The concrete bases are going in first and then the benches will go in later when the concrete has set.

This has not been caused deliberately but has been due to general heavy use by youngsters having fun - no problem there as that is what can be expected in a high use area of a public park.

Ok, so what are we doing about it? Well the tunnel is still in a delicate state and at the moment we intend to leave it as it is growing fine and when the branches have grown a bit this summer we will try and rebuild the tunnel effect and see how it goes. Still a bit of mystery though as to how anyone thought such a flimsy structure would survive in that particular location – but that’s life and we will do our best to try and ensure it survives long term.

We thought that the current snow would put a stop to that. Snow Chance. There they were this morning coming down the slide like Eddy the Eagle………. Bril.

On the same site it is a shame that the ‘willow tunnel’ is not doing well and all the plants on the slope to the slide have gradually disappeared. The thing with the willow tunnel is that it has not been vandalised it has just disintegrated due to the amount of children using the play area – which is of course a good thing.

With the hot weather during the last few days these trees have shown signs of wilting and with the hot weather forecast for the next week , it would be great if someone could give them a hand by watering them. It would just take a few people with a couple of bottles of water each to help things along.

So, if you are walking your dog in the area please consider taking along a bottle of water and give them a chance to survive. Thanks.                                                                

There has not been a single day since the area opened that has not seen hundreds of youngsters and their families using the facility. Today was no different with families having a picnic as well. Long may this continue.

Apologies for the soggy ground on the site a combination I’m afraid of newly laid turf and the incredibly wet weather of the last week. So there you go – a great area for the youngsters with grass mounds to run up and down as well as ’stepping stones’ slides, a climbing wall and much more.

There are seats around the site for parents to keep an eye on on little Jimmy and it is also close the picnic area, information boards, the toilets and the cafe.

 

The new play area though should be open before Easter.

Delayed because of the waterlogged ground it should not too long now. Several wooden benches, wooden stepping ’stones’ and the information sign are now in place. Oh, and please say a prayer for the willow tunnel!
