Park Toilets Now Closed Over Winter

The park toilets were due to close at the end of October an extension until the end of November was agreed with the council. Not ideal but that’s life!

The Friends of Sandall Park would like the toilets open every day of the year but the reality is that the finances will not stretch that far. The toilets (with the odd exception) have been open throughout the summer – every day. Without our campaigns the toilets would have been permanently closed a long time ago.

Normally the winter opening for the toilets is on a weekend basis – but for the last two years serious and expensive frost damage has been caused resulting in the toilets being closed for extended periods – the danger is that the lack of finances and serious damage will result in the toilets being closed forever.

Realistically we agree that it is reasonable for the toilets to be closed and drained over the winter until the beginning of April. This should ensure that the toilets will again remain open throughout the summer next year.

The toilets will be open for a couple of hours on the morning of the Santa Dash on the 11th December.

Not ideal – but that’s park life.

Toilets Closed Today – Strike!

The park toilets have not been opened today – we are guessing that it is as a result of many DMBC staff being on strike.

There is still access to the disabled toilets though using the radar key.

Bank Holiday and Toilets Closed – Grrrrr!

Thanks to those who have contacted us about the toilets being closed. Unfortunately we can’t find out why they are closed – it appears the Customer Services at DMBC are closed as well!

We’ve done all we can do at the moment and messages have been left with the council.

Sorry for any inconvenience but we’ve done all we can do for now. Sorry.

The toilets have now been repaired following vandalism last weekend.

Thanks to the Safer Neighbourhood Team for a quick response to the problem.

Park Toilets Out of Action – Vandalism

Due to vandalism the park toilets are currently out of action.

We are chasing this up as the park is incredibly busy at the moment. Sorry for any inconvenience – but as we all know there are some less than desirable visitors to the park intent on spoiling things for everyone else.

There are toilets at nearby eating establishments.

Following closure over the winter period due to serious damage as a result of the severe weather – the park toilets will open again on the 1st April.

The frozen conditions have claimed a major casualty in the park – the toilets.

They were frozen solid on the day of the Santa Dash and have been since. The current thaw has resulted in burst pipes which in turn has resulted in serious damage to the fabric of the building.

There is no quick fix for this problem and the toilets will be closed for the foreseeable future. We do seem to have this problem every year when it gets seriously cold. A review in the way the toilets are opened in the winter has been called for.

Parks Toilets Still Open

Previous experience has shown that in very cold weather the toilets in the park tend to freeze up, resulting in them being closed.

Not this time though. The toilets are currently open and in use – which is just as well with the numbers of visitors enjoying the winter fun this weekend so far.

Winter Opening for Park Toilets

Yep it’s that time of the year. Winter is almost upon us and it’s sadly time for winter opening times for the park toilets.

The toilets will remain open until after the school holidays and then will only be open at the weekends until 1st April next year. We agree it’s not ideal and we don’t like it but if everyone realised the lobbying and negotiations that have gone on so far they would realise that the current position is actually quite a good deal. The alternative is have them close all the time.

Can You Tell What It Is Yet?

Yep it’s a toilet roll and to be more exact it is one used to block the toilets up – again! Forensic analysis and DNA testing was not required.

More money has been spent on unblocking the ladies toilets (blocked by toilet rolls) than anything else. I’m sure there is a reason for this strange behaviour but the fact is if money is continually wasted unblocking the toilets they will eventually close. The council is not flush with money!
