After a narrow defeat earlier in the year by a Yorkshire Bank team this time the solicitors were on the ball and after a first innings lead of 6 – 5 eventually ran out 26 – 11 winners.

There were some suspicious ‘no balls’ but betting in this area was almost nil – OK it was nil. There is to be no inquiry!! However it was rumoured that a  ’Ringer of Sandall Park’  assisted the solicitors but we are ready for a News of the World ’sting’.

A great time was had by all – exactly what parks should be used for. There was even talk of a charity tournament next year – so watch this space.

So congratulations to Lucan Handley for catching the first ‘legal’ fish since fishing started again today.

There does seem some justice in Lucan catching the first one given the effort Laura and Lucan have put in to get fishing up and running in the park again.

We will be starting a ‘Hall of Fame’ of photographs of the biggest fish caught in the lake. The Anglers of Sandall Park will decide which fish qualify – so all photographs and details to them please.

Barbless hooks only;
Dawn till dusk fishing only;
Extreme care when fishing near birds;
ALL fish to be returned;
No spinning or livebaiting;
Max 3 rods;
Fishing in designated areas only;
No carp in keepnets;
Keepnets only in matches;
Landing nets to be used for all fish.

Can we thank everyone that supported our stand and also Roger Tuby for inviting us to put a tombola on.  Also thanks to the FoSP members who ‘manned’ the stall and delivered the gazebo and prizes to the site.

Who can blame them? There are not many fishing places where you can come and spend the day fishing while the kids enjoy the play facilities. Who’s more excited, the fishermen or the kids?

Expect to pay £3 for a day ticket to fish or pay just £24 for the whole year – you know it makes sense. We wish all responsible fishermen well and who knows the next ‘Twotone’ (the record carp that died last week) could be just one catch away in Sandall Park!

It’s a great cause and a great way to see the park. Just two laps of the park and you’re there! The start will on the old golf course – so if you don’t want to take part just come and support the event.

The areas will be the ‘North Bank’ from the privet hedge round to the willow tree and the whole peninsular where most park visitors go to feed the wildlife.

FoSP has supported the re-introduction of fishing to the park under the supervision of the new angling club on the understanding that these two areas are strictly ‘no fishing’ and remain a sanctuary for the wildlife in the park.

Fishing in no fishing areas has always been the main area of conflict between irresponsible fishermen and other park visitors. This ultimately led to the fishing ban over the last five months. We ask that the restrictions in these areas be respected.

We are delighted with the collaboration between The Anglers of Sandall Park and FoSP and see it as a positive step forward in the development of activities in the park.

The Friends of Sandall Park will also be there with their tombola stall – call and visit us and find out what’s happening in the park and what is planned for the future.

This also looks pretty bad on fairly new benches – especially when we have gone almost a year without any damage whatsoever. Well thats school holidays for you!
