There may be 24 hours to go but the Fake Festival tent is up already. The weather forecast has improved greatly and it looks like being yet another great Fakefest in the park.

It’s Fake Festival weekend in Sandall Park and it’s going to be great!

If you’re quick there are still tickets available or you can walk up and pay on the door but it is more expensive – go for it.

If you’ve never seen Coldplay tribute band Colplace then you’re missing a trick – have a look at the promo below. We are promised that they are even bigger and better (if that’s possible) than their last appearence four years ago.

The Friends of Sandall Park tonight maintained its high profile by receiving two awards at the Doncaster Free Press Environmental Awards at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster.

Marshall Barclay of of FoSP received the runner up individual award and the Friends of Sandall Park received the overall winners Community Enironmental Award.

We would like to thank EVERYONE who uses the park responsibly and the THOUSANDS of people who support the park – these awards are for everyone. Well done also to all the groups, organisations and businesses who were nominated and received awards and of course to the Doncaster Free Press who sponsored and organised the event.

Special thanks to Marshall – the park has been even more special this year because of you. Well done!

Benches Damaged

Again minor damage to some of the picnic benches on the old golf course – I suppose that’s park life.

Still it’s sorted now and all has been restored as good as new for a busy weekend in the park. As usual – any suggestions re offenders would be appreciated – some of the names are pretty distinctive.

As we suspected following the disappearance of the one and only black swan cygnet of 2012 – mum and dad are having another go. Stressful or what?

So, they are on the nest again – so fingers crossed for a bit more luck this time.

Last Nights FoSP Meeting

At last nights Friends of Sandall Park meeting the following items were discussed. Full details will be published in due course.

The minutes of the the April meeting were agreed and can be found on the publications page.

Items discussed:
Dog fouling on the new play area;
Time capsule recovery (in 30 years!!);
Police outcome of dogs worrying wildlife;
Crime in the park;
Development of the new play area;
Development of the garden area near the lake;
Group finances;
Future music events in the park.

15 people attended the meeting.

Last night saw a deputation from the Friends of Sandall Park visit the Fresh Start ladies group at the Phoenix Theatre in Bawtry.

We gave a presentation to the ladies and took questions about the park and our group.

Our thanks go to the Fresh Start ladies for the invitation, hospitality and the very, very kind donation to our funds.

A Fishy Puzzle……..

Here’s one for those with a long memory. The picture below was taken in 1972 and shows fish being netted in the park.

It appeared in the Doncaster Free Press – not a very clear picture but it actually looks more like a scene from the harbour side at Scarborough than in our park.

There is no narrative with the story – so if anyone has any ideas what the actual story is we would be delighted to know.
