New Members Welcome

2010 will be as busy as ever for the Friends of Sandall Park. The park is proving ever popular and visitor numbers are clearly increasing.

Why not join us? You don’t have to attend meetings, you could just turn up and help when we have planned events like litter picks or bulb planting. You may be able to offer your time and experience at larger events in the park such as the Music in the Park or Care to Run.

Just get in contact and we will keep you up to date on what is happening in the park and how you can help. Our meetings take place on the third Thursday in the month at Sandallwood Centre, off Thorne road, Wheatley, 7pm.

Web Stats Still Improving

It’s always nice to know that people visit our web site and then return. At least something must be right.

January saw more than 1300 different genuine visitors to our site make more than 3500 visits. Long may this continue and thanks to everyone for paying a visit to our site. It would be better still if more people did leave comments on some of the articles.

Take Your Litter Home

Gosh we have some tough souls visiting the park! We have not yet reached spring yet we have had families using the picnic facilities near the car park.

This will prove to be an even more popular area when the Playbuilders project is completed. Can we remind everyone though to put your rubbish in a bin when you have finished your picnic?

There is a danger that this area will turn in to one giant rubbish bin if everyone does not play their part.

What to do this Weekend

Well the weather is still on the wintry side but there are still plenty of things to do in the park this weekend.

The water pipe problem with the toilets has been sorted so they should be open. Why not check out the weather and gets some ideas of what to do by

At the FOSP Quiz Night at the end of last month we did a joint competition with the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO). The reason being that several of our our members are retired police officers and many retired police officers have supported FOSP on many of our ventures.

On the Quiz Night we played for two trophies – one being the main FOSP trophy for the overall winner and the second was for the highest place police team. The winners of this trophy were ‘The Parkers’ made up of Martyn and Jen Oxley and Sarah and Colin Stokes.  You can get more details of their team victory and of NARPO by clicking here.

Answer Please?

I should have asked this one on the quiz night – it’s certainly got me stumped!

Our photographer Derrick Bewell has taken this picture in the park. It looks like some sort of nest – but what sort we do not have a clue so if anyone has any ideas we would be delighted to hear them.

Feed The Birds £5.99 A Bag…….

We may be half way through February but winter is certainly not over yet and our resident birds still need a helping hand with their food.

They have had a hard time over this particularly hard winter and it has been great to see everyone bring them food. There seems to be a great debate about what they should be fed and whether bread is actually good for them – but when all food is scarce they do seem to enjoy bread.

Another option is lettuce in strips and now we have found that they ALL love poultry food! It’s also pretty cheap – you can get a massive 20kg bag of poultry food which is a maize and corn mix from Cherry Lane (AKA Tickhill Nursery) for just £5.99
