Toilets – RADAR Key

The park is lucky  enough to have some decent toilets which are currently open all summer.

The toilet block is also equipped with a disabled toilet with access using a RADAR key. Unfortunately the door must be locked afterwards by using the RADAR key – we realise it is a bit of a bind but the door is almost always left open. If this happens in the evening it means the toilets are open to possible vandals and anti social behaviour all night.

We have worked and campaigned hard to have these toilets open in the park but every instance of damage is another excuse to have the facility removed.

We ask for everyone’s co-operation. Please lock the disabled toilet door EVERY time it is used. Thankyou.

Keep Dogs Off The Play Area

We know we’ve covered this before but things have not improved….

With the new play equipment now installed in the play area near the main car park – if it wasn’t before – it is certainly now obvious that this area is a play area for children.

Irresponsible dog owners are still exercising their dogs on the area – many not clearing up after them. Those that do still leave residue and the dogs are pee’ing up all the equipment that children are later crawling all over.

The message is just don’t take your dog on the play area – it is for children and the park is massive (79 acres) with enough room for everyone. We get repeated complaints from parents about it and you’re spoiling things for other park visitors.

Common sense really – shame it’s not so common!

What to do This Weekend…

OK it could be a better weather forecast for the weekend but there is still plenty to do in the park.

There is another angling match on Sunday – 7.15 draw in the car park .  Anyone wishing further information can contact Lucan Handley on lucanhandley@googlemail.com or by mobile on 07970313564.

Easter Over – Bring on Fakefest!

Phew! The Easter week was busy for the Friends of Sandall Park – organising the Easter Egg Hunt, Hook a Duck Championships and the launch of the Veolia funded Adventure Playground.

The next big event in the park is the Sandall Park Fake Festival. We like it for more than one reason – it is a superb day for park visitors – it is always hot (oh, oh) and it is the one day in the year we can attend an event in the park and not have to organise it …….. so we just sit back and enjoy the bands and an incredible day!

Tickets are currently on sale and you can still get cheaper ‘Early Bird’ tickets until the 19th April. So check out the Fake Festival site or visit one of the many local ticket outlets including the park cafe.

FREE! Rounders Equipment Available

The Friends of Sandall Park have a full set of rounders equipment including bats, balls, bases and rules.

The equipment is available for free use by groups and families in the park. Please contact FOSP on 0750 332 9309 or Email sandallpark@googlemail.com to book the equipment. All we ask is that there an adult present to take responsibility for the equipment. A good place to play is on the Old Golf course area near to the cafe end where a pitch has been marked out.

Ready Steady Store – Thankyou

It is fair to say that the Egg Hunt and Hook a Duck Championship on Thursday were a great success…..

But the whole day would not have taken place without the incredible support of Ready Steady Store who supplied all the Easter Eggs, goody bags, pens and sweets as well as ‘manning’ the Egg Hunt tent.

So from the Friends of Sandall Park a massive thankyou again. The other thing is – without their support, where would we put all the equipment that we use for events like this in the park?

Anglers Give Lake a Spring Clean

The Anglers of Sandall Park (AoSP) today gave the lake a spring clean removing large amounts amounts of debris that had been dumped in the lake over the years.

Stuff removed from the lake with a newly devised secret weapon – which we can exclusively reveal is a ‘Shopping Trolley and Bread Wrapper extractor’ (patent applied for) – included vehicle tyres, a fire extinguisher and much more…..

Our thanks to AoSP for making the lake area lot nicer place – well done guys.

We Are The Champions…….

OK Short and sweet – da da – the 2012 Sandall Park Hook a Duck Champions are………….

Clair Thompson (Senior Trophy Winner)………..8 Ducks/Minute;
Daniel Jewison (Joint Junior wnner)……………… 7 ducks/Minute
Kate Collinson (Joint Junior Winner)……………… 7 ducks/Minute
