Due to circumstances beyond out control the November Friends of Sandall Park meeting was rearranged for this Wednesday 2nd December.
So, if you want to know what’s happening in the park, or is about to happen in the park – we’ll see you Wednesday evening 7pm at Sandalwood Communal Hall, Sandallwood Close, Wheatley. (Opposite the park on Thorne Road).
We were asked by Keep Britain Tidy and Superbin to trial a new special litter bin in the park – and today was the big day!
The bin looks and ‘acts’ like other bins but part of it is storage space for litter picking equipment so that our volunteers can carry out litter picks at any time they are in the park. Brilliant idea!
In the coming months our volunteers will be ‘road testing’ the Superbin. Exciting times indeed!
To the couple who this afternoon thought it was OK for their two dogs to chase and harass the wildlife in the park – well it’s not!
In answer to the question “Who cares – you don’t know where I live”……. Answer: We don’t need to – we’ve got your registration number………!
The photo’s, video, and statements (including independent witnesses) have been sent to the authorities.
For the record – we have had five black swans and cygnets killed by dogs due to behaviour such as yours. Two offences: 1) Dog not under control 2) Allowing your dog to worry wildlife. Simples!
We don’t like doing this but someone has got to look after the wildlife and support the majority of dog owners who take their dog ownership responsibilities seriously.
Side note: Apparently we’re ‘F….g do gooders’. Yup OK and proud of it!
The relevant post on Facebook has been viewed by more than 14,000 people, ‘Liked’ by 440 people and with 35 supportive comments we reckon most people would view the action taken as appropriate.
This is another release from the promoters of next years Summerfest Doncaster @ Sandall Park:
“As part of our Social Responsibility, we shall be supporting a number of good causes in the run up to and during the Festival. A number of causes and voluntary groups that have an impact in the community have been identified and will be announced in due course.
The first we are proud to announce is to the Friends of Sandall Park a voluntary group that have worked tirelessly on the decade long restoration and never ending maintenance of the Park. (Reg Charity No.1120679)https://www.sandallpark.org.uk
The Park is a beautiful open space and we feel extremely privileged to be hosting our event there – well worth a visit!”
2016 is going to be big year for Sandall Park – we just know it! The planning is going ahead already and we are delighted to announce a new Music Festival in the park for next year – The Doncaster Summerfest!
The date will be Saturday 6th August and the headline bands have yet to be announced.
