Our friends at the council have been in touch to update us on events booked in for this year (Pandemic permitting of course). One such event is Circus Starr, on 22nd June. This is what the circus is about:
“Put simply, we bring fun to you!
We believe in a world where anything is possible. We understand that attending mainstream events can be difficult for children with additional needs or families in difficult circumstances which is why we’ve created a tut-free zone; a show in which shouting out, dancing and jumping up and down are expected. At our circus, everyone is absolutely encouraged to let go of their worries, get involved, and be themselves.
What we do
We bring all the fun of the circus to children and families that may have found this difficult in the past. We know that a circus is a family event that brings everyone closer, encourages creativity and allows people to become stronger and more able to face life’s challenges head on. We tour the UK bringing the very best in circus talent from around the world and stage 148 incredible, animal-free shows every year.
Who we do it for
Children with disabilities, families on low incomes, those facing challenges such as domestic violence, bereavement or who may be living with a life-limiting condition. Every child, whoever they are, is free to be themselves at a Circus Starr Show – shout with joy, move to the music or appear centre stage!”
Doncaster’s first ever Litter Picking Championships will be coming to a park near you. Namely Sandall Park.
This will be our first event post lockdown.
We already have the plans worked out for the day, but the date won’t be announced until Lockdown has ended and it’s deemed safe to run events.
There will be opportunities to sponsor prizes too if anyone feels they can contribute (though we appreciate times are hard at the moment).
The way things are, there will be plenty of time to practice – either in the park or where you live, so don’t hold back! You can buy cheap litter pickers from the Thorne Road Poundland. If you can recycle things as you collect – all the better!
There will be several categories based on age and ability, so everyone can take part. We’ll make sure you have a fun day. If any children want to write a story, or draw a picture about litter, it can go on our information board on the day. #Letslearnaboutlitter
We look forward to seeing you there – whenever it is.
